During the completion of my Criminal and Community Justice undergraduate degree, I have accumulated various generic skills that are accustomed to everyday life. Skills such as problem-solving, researching this particular field of study, working individually or within a group setting and ensuring a high quality of oral and written communication skills. I had also volunteered at a Juvenile Justice Centre, a tutoring centre of refugee women and a local Public School to aid disadvantaged children with their learning, the generic skills I had obtained assisted my working capabilities to provide the required support without the necessity of specialised skills.
2) Specialised Skills
The specialised skills that I had obtained during my Criminal and Community Justice undergraduate degree are associated with this one specific course. During the 3-year period of constant learning, I have acquired skills such as, case management abilities, designing different frameworks, cultivating critical reviews, composing reports and critical thinking skills. Due to these specialised skills, I have an extensive knowledge of the adversary system and a broad knowledge of an abundance of differing mental health factors. These specialised skills are an integral part of my future career in any social work setting. I believe that specialised skills are detrimental in terms of succeeding in comparison to only have basic, generic skills.
3) Community Funding Application Development
In preparation when applying for a grant application, it is utmost important to understand the entire basis of the program, and to receive verified eligibility in order to complete the outstanding application. A successful application will include, and not be limited to, demonstrating the organisations ability to deliver the applicable services that coincide with the targeted communities core issues, evidence regarding the organisation’s overall capabilities as a program and reiterate why the program will efficiently coexist with existing services. In regards to this, I have been able to classify a program in order to prevent Liverpool’s youth unemployment rates from rising any further. This program intends to reduce unemployment rates within Liverpool, targeting students who are graduating school, by working to enhance their skills using workshops etc. The Department of Education is a key funding body in order to support this program, this particular department coincides perfectly with this employment training program as it aims to constantly improve student’s overall literacy performance during school.
4) Applied Debate
An applied debate is a binding decision on a certain proposition, I believe that applied debates are conducted under an educational institution to equip students with the skills and knowledge when transitioning into the work force. I believe the articulate usage of position papers in an applied debate context is significant in terms of underlying and formally addressing a certain position on a topic, whilst also addressing some limitations, and then ultimately reiterating the strongest point of the argument. Applied debates are an essential in terms of student’s advocating an interest in the topic, and then allowing the audience to decide on their opinions with the facts and evidence presented.
